Getting to the Ngorongoro Crater

  • From Arusha – The most common route is a drive from Arusha (approximately 3–4 hours, 190 km) along the Arusha-Ngorongoro Road. The journey takes you through scenic highlands, with views of the Mount Meru and parts of the Great Rift Valley.
  • From Serengeti – If coming from the Serengeti National Park, a 6–7-hour drive is required, passing through the Naabi Hill Gate and into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The road is a bit rough, so a sturdy vehicle is essential.

Best time to visit Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater is a year-round destination, but the dry season (June–October) offers the best wildlife sightings, as animals gather around the water sources. However, visiting in the green season (November–April) offers lush landscapes and fewer crowds.
